American Rapper DMX Dies At 50

American veteran rapper DMX has died. The rapper was hospitalized on April 2 after suffering an apparent drug overdose and subsequent heart attack at his home in White Plains, New York. He was 50 years old. DMX’s family issued the following statement via the press representative: "We are deeply saddened to announce today April 9th, 2021, that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized." Born Earl Simmons in Mount Vernon, New York, DMX spent much of his early life in Yonkers, New York. He experienced a turbulent childhood, growing up in an abusive household and spending time in boys’ homes and, later, juvenile institutions. It was during his time at one of those boys’ homes that he started writing music, eventually linking up with producer Ready Ron. DMX’s signature raspy growl—partially caused by a lifelong struggle with bronchial asthma—made his songs instantly recognizable. He broke into the wider music industry at large after The Source featured him in its “Unsigned Hype” column. The following year, he signed to Columbia’s Ruffhouse imprint, though he was dropped after a pair of singles. After some years of promo tracks and guest spots, he was signed to Def Jam, setting him up for his breakout projects: It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot and Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood, both of which arrived in 1998. His 1999 album ...And Then There Was X went multi-platinum off the success of the singles “Party Up” and “What’s My Name.” In addition to his slew of hits, DMX also became a film star, appearing in Romeo Must Die (alongside Aaliyah), Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave, and more. His last album Undisputed was issued in 2012. He released his most recent single “Bain Iz Back” at the beginning of 2017. DMX was open about his struggles with addiction, as well as the time he spent incarcerated. In 2018, he was sentenced to a year in prison for tax evasion. Following his release in early 2019, the rapper re-signed with Def Jam and was readying an album with multiple high profile features. In September of that year, he told GQ that he didn’t have any reservations about making new music. “The standard that I hold myself to is the same: Better than everything I hear,” he said. Months after a landmark VERZUZ appearance with Snoop Dogg, DMX discussed addiction with rapper Talib Kweli in an emotional late 2020 interview on the latter’s podcast, People’s Party With Talib Kweli. “Drugs were a symptom of a bigger problem,” he told Kweli. “There were things that I went through in my childhood where I just blocked it out—but there’s only so much you can block out before you run out of space,” he said. “I really didn’t have anybody to talk to about it. So often talking about your problems is viewed as a sign of weakness. When it’s actually one of the bravest things you can do.” Since the late rapper’s death was announced, celebrities and fans have been paying tribute to him on social media. See below tributes from  fans and celebrities: RIP DMX. Thank you for being the soundtrack of my childhood. — Burna Boy (@burnaboy) April 9, 2021 DMX performed in Abuja in 2004. Meet WiseKid, The Artiste Who Scammed "Made in Lagos" of Millions of Streams

Wizkid is one of Africa's biggest music export. The singer just won a Grammy for the Best Music Video, for his role in 'Brown Skin Girl', Beyonce's 2019 hit song. A collabo with him will be enough to catapult any struggling artist to instant fame.  Meet the upcoming artist that found a shortcut to benefit from the superstar’s global fame: "Wisekid".  About six months ago, an upcoming artist identified as Nathaniel started creating social media profiles under the pseudonym @WiseKidAya. He was deliberately infringing on the WizKid Ayo brand name, he did not stop there. He created a replica of Wizkid’s Made in Lagos album and uploaded it to music platforms and he started cashing out almost N30 million a month in streams and sales revenue being shared with him. He called his own version of Made in Lagos, Lasgidi Made, and most streamers either didn’t notice the difference or clicked on his album in error. As a result of Wizkid’s popularity, Wisekid was able to garner more than 9 million plays per month from 130k daily listeners. All seemed to be going well for wisekid until he started bragging about his popularity on social media, that was when he caught people’s attention who described him as a scammer. Wisekid’s account has since been deleted on Twitter, and his streaming accounts have also been deleted for copyright violation. Music lovers and fans of Wizkid are beginning to ask how this was allowed to happen by streaming companies who allowed copyright materials on their platforms for months and even made payments without the necessary verifications. This guy is an artist scamming off Wizkid’s name and albums. He made a replica of Made in Lagos and uploaded it to music platforms and the streams and sales are being shared to him too. He came to brag about it. — Chemical Brother 👌 (@chemicalbrodar) April 6, 2021 Following backlash from Wizkid fans, Wisekid’s distribution company, Freeme Digital, put up a statement claiming ignorance of Wisekid's dubious act but have now deleted the statement.

“I Forgot I had A Song With Wizkid”- Reekado Banks

Nigerian Singer and song writer Ayoleyi Hanniel Solomon, better known by his stage name Reekado Banks,  threw shade at Wizkid in a recent interview with F Word Magazine.  The 'Rora' singer took a direct swipe at Starboy. When asked by the Interviewer why he didn’t include his song with Wizkid in his ‘Off the Record‘  album released late last year, Reekado Banks bluntly said he forgot about the song. “Cos I forgot about it. I don’t know what that is man. But yeah, the Wizkid one I totally forgot about it already. And the Burna Boy one was… I don’t know that time, I thought it was going to be fun to, you know, get on and just vibe like everybody else was but obviously, he wasn’t having it and he made it clear. And now we’ve moved past that. And it’s just fine.” You would recall how Wizkid and Reekado Banks aggressively dragged each other on Twitter. It all began when Wizkid blasted Reekado Banks for announcing their song, 'Omo Olomo' amidst the #EndSars Protest.
