Watch Davido Perform On NPR’s ‘Tiny Desk’ Home Concert

by Jewel Ghene

Nigerian-American singer, songwriter, and record producer David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido gave an electrifying 12-minute performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk home concert in celebration of black history month.

The "Fem!" crooner gave viewers an entertaining virtual performance with his live band on the 24th of February 2021. He performed from home as he dished out hits like Risky and Jowo on the set of NPR’s Tiny Desk. To open the set, he and his band created a sultry vibe with a unique rendition of “Gobe,” his smash 2013 single. In collaboration with the Alternate Sound band, Davido strips back “Aye,” a hit from 2014, with an unfettered rendition showcasing his natural voice devoid of any vocal effects. And the result sounds fantastic. Rounding out this Tiny Desk (home) concert, he concludes with “Jowo,” a single from “A Better Time” album which conjures hope for better times ahead. During his performance on NPR's Tiny Desk, Dthe singer cited his father as a source of inspiration. He said;

"A Nigerian American like myself that studied in the States...I went to an HBCU, you know... My dad went to one as well and my dad used to work at Burger King. ... To become what he's become today as a Black man starting off in America has been very, very inspiring to me."

NPR Music’s Tiny Desk series celebrates Black History Month, Davido and other Black artists delivered electrifying performances on Tiny Desk (home) concerts. It also featured playlists by Black artists spanning different genres and generations each week.
