Popular Afrobeats artist, Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley was called out and reported to the Minister of Aviation for flaunting the ban on interstate travel and flying for a concert from Lagos to Abuja on Saturday, June 13, 2020 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

This led to the suspension of ExecuJets by the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika for violating the ban on interstate travel to convey the Afrobeats artist, ex-Big Brother Naija housemate, Kimoprah and his crew to Abuja for a drive-by concert.

The airline however released a statement apologizing to the Aviation Minister blaming it on a ‘mix-up’. The CEO of ExecuJet, Sam Iwuajoku, wrote:

“When I went through the manifest and I saw FASHOLA BABATUNDE I thought it was the Honorable Minister of Works going to Abuja with his men, so we decided to do the flight since it is a serving Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I didn’t know it was a bunch of useless people,”

In reaction to this statement, Naira Marley says he and his army of Marlians will be boycotting the airline henceforth for tagging them “useless”. Naira Marley tweeted: “Do you know that over 20,000 Marlians travel with Executive Jet a month? We won’t be using ur useless airline again for calling us useless. Thank God we didn’t crash on that flight sha because we nearly did. BTW We didn’t book the flight ourselves.”

Naira Marley is known for his Afrobeats dances like Soapy and Tesumole. He is the president of his controversial fan base, Marlians.

This is not the first time the Afrobeats artist would get into trouble with the government. In April, Naira Marley was arrested and charged to court for flouting the lockdown order to attend a crowded birthday party at Funke Akindele-Bello’s residence.
