Kiddominant Introduces Africa To His New ‘South Afrobeats’ Sound

by Dyesek Admins

Award-winning Nigerian producer, Kiddominant comes in with a new Afrobeats sound that he calls ‘South Afrobeats’. He introduces this sound with the release of a new single, ‘eWallet’ featuring South African star, Cassper Nyovest.

Kiddominant is the ace producer behind Davido’s smash hit, “Fall”, which has gone 3 times platinum in South Africa and Gold in the United States and Canada.

South Afrobeats comes with a heavy influence on South African drums and traditional Afrobeats. His time in South Africa and interaction with the culture there birthed this unique sound.

In an interview with Okay Africa, Kiddominant revealed he grew up exposed to legendary musicians like Fela Kuti, Lagbaja, Sade, and Micheal Jackson. Producers that have inspired him are Timbaland, Dr. Dre, Kanye West, and Scott Storch.

“I've always wanted to make music for the world, but I wanted the music I made to still represent Africa, I didn't want to change my origin or sound,” He revealed.

When asked what his goal was for the new sound, he has this to say: “With the introduction of South Afrobeats, I feel like South Africa has such good music and only a portion of the world knows about it. People don't realize the kind of music South Africans make, it's so amazing! I lived in South Africa for a year, after "Fall" started taking off, that's where I met AKA, and I realized there's a lot we can do with this sound—especially with the fact that I'm a Nigerian making Afrobeats, I can actually show people what these guys are doing in South Africa in my own way.”

Kiddominant also revealed that the song “eWallet” was inspired by South African girls during his time in the country. The song encourages African men to appreciate and spend on “black queens”.

This is not the last we will be hearing from this new sound, as he’s got top South African artists on board for new South Afrobeats music like AKA, Sho Madjozi, and others.
